She completed a residency in Family Medicine at the University of Cincinnati in 2004 and is board certified in Family Medicine. Dr. Boyd married and became Dr. Barnes after 12 years of family medicine practice.
In addition to providing primary care for infants, children, teens, and adults, Dr. Barnes is also a certified medical review officer, a Designated Civil Surgeon with the Department of Homeland Security/USCIS, and offers medication assisted treatment for opiate addiction as well.
Dr. Barnes understands that patients should be active partners in developing their health care plans. The Midwest Health Group LLC team understands that empathy, respect, clear communication, and ongoing education of the team and its patients are essential elements for a successful primary care team.
We treat all persons kindly with respect without regard to literacy, mental health, gender, race, religion, sexual oritentation or any other identifier that diversifies the human race (#Luke6:31).
Dr. Barnes is the oldest of 6 siblings, a Christian wife and mother of 5. She loves spending time with her family, advocating for mental health, children, civil, and human rights in her spare time.
Dr. Barnes grew up and attended high school in Cincinnati's inner city. She was awarded The Darwin T. Turner scholarship, a full academic scholarship at the University of Cincinnati. She majored in Chemistry while at U.C. and was awarded freshman of the year for highest academic achievements in the Darwin Turner scholarship program (#reptheT). She completed medical and residency training at the University of Cincinnati. She was a proud recipient of the prestigious Harry B. Stagaman award in the U.C. Family Medicine residency program. While in practice, she has received many awards including the Pfizer Teacher Development award for her work in educating medical students and the Owen J. Wrassman award for her philanthropic efforts at the Cincinnati Reds Urban Youth Baseball/Softball Academy.
After completing residency, Dr. Barnes worked as a primary care physician for Alliance Primary Care (now UC Health) in Evendale. With the restructuring of Alliance Primary Care, Dr. Barnes moved around UC Health, practicing primary care in both the Wyoming and Clifton offices. She also began and continues to serve as the medical director for UC Health's department of Associate Health and Wellness. During her nine years of working as a primary care physician for UC Health, she founded Midwest Health Group LLC as a consultation firm in an attempt to balance the work-life cycle of a physician mom of small children. The practice has since developed into one offering a diverse array of services reflective of the depth and diversity of true family medicine.
Our mission is to improve the wellness of others by providing primary care in a safe medical home where sharing of information and decision making fosters improvement in healthcare outcomes.
